Stephen was born on August 20th, 1813.  Stephen's father was Capt Samuel Rankin and his mother was Jane McConahey.  His paternal grandparents were William Rankin and Abagail Tassie (Native American???). He had six brothers and three sisters, named John, Samuel, William, David, Matthew, James, Matilda, Abigail and Jane.  He died at the age of 63 in February 1877.
