Jane's father was Capt Samuel Rankin and her mother was Jane McConahey.  Her paternal grandparents were William Rankin and Abagail Tassie (Native American???). She had seven brothers and two sisters, named John, Samuel, Stephen, William, David, Matthew, James, Matilda and Abigail.
