Samuel was born on June 3rd, 1806.  Samuel's father was Capt Samuel Rankin and his mother was Jane McConahey.  His paternal grandparents were William Rankin and Abagail Tassie (Native American???). He had six brothers and three sisters, named John, Stephen, William, David, Matthew, James, Matilda, Abigail and Jane.  He died at the age of 27 on May 28th, 1834.
