Mary was born about 1750 in Chesterfield Co, Va. Mary's father was Lt. Henry Stratton and her mother was "1st wife of Henry Stratton". Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Stratton and Elizabeth Elam. She had a brother and a sister, named Henry and Martha. She was the oldest of the three children. She had four half-brothers and six half-sisters, named John Hampton, Archibald, William, Thomas, Elizabeth "Betty", Anna (Anne), Millicent "Milly", Jane "Gincey", Sarah and Judith (Judah). She died in Bedford Co, Va. She was buried in Bedford Co, Va.-
