Edward was born in 1679 in Burmuda Hundred, Chesterfield Co, Va. Edward's father was Edward Stratton II and his mother was Martha Shippey Jr. His paternal grandparents were Edward Stratton I and Elizabeth Thurston; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Shippey II and Martha Browne. He had six sisters named Martha, Mary, Elizabeth, Anne, Sarah and Prudence. He was the oldest of the seven children. He died after June 1719 in Prince George Co, Va. He was buried in Prince George Co, Va.-
