Robert was born in 1239 in Derby, Derbyshire, England. Robert's father was William III De Ferrers and his mother was Margaret De Qunicy. His paternal grandparents were William II De Ferrers and Agnes De Meschines; his maternal grandparents were Roger De Quincy and Helen Hawise MacDonal. He had a brother and four sisters, named William IV, Margaret, Elizabeth, Agnes and Joan. He was the second oldest of the six children. He had four half-sisters named Isabel, Maud, Joan and Agatha. He died at the age of 40 in 1279. He was buried in Prior of St Thomas, Stafford, England.General Notes
