Robert was born in 1125 in Long Buckley, Northamptonshire, England. Robert's father was Saier De Quincy and his mother was Maud De St Liz. His paternal grandfather is Robert De Quincy; his maternal grandparents were Simon De St Liz and Maud of Huntingdon. He had a brother named Saier. He was the older of the two children.
