Robert was born in 1100 in Derbyshire, England. Robert's father was Robert De Ferrers and his mother was Hawise De Vitre. His paternal grandparents were Henry De Ferrers and Bertha Roberts; his maternal grandfather was Andre d'Vitre and his maternal grandmother is Agnes De Mortaigne. He had a sister named Maud. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 62 in 1162 in Merevale, Warickshire, England.General Notes

Little is known of Robert's life, other than his generosity to the churc
h. He established Meervale Abbey in Warwickshire, England, where he reques
ted to be buried in an ox hide.
He died in 1162 and was succeeded by his son William de Ferrers, 3rd Ea
rl of Derby.
