William De Braose 
William was born in 1112 in Abergavenny, Gwent, Wales. William's father was Philip De Braose and his mother is Aenor De Totnais. His paternal grandparents were William De Braose and Eve De Boessey; his maternal grandparents are Judeal Jobel De Totenais and ? De Pecguifny. He had a brother and a sister, named Phillip and Basilia. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 80 in 1192 in Weobley, Hereforshire, England.General Notes

William was very fortunate in his marriage to Ber ta. All of her brothers
died young without heirs so she brought a number of i mportant lordships
to the De Braoses in 1166. These included Brecon and Aberg avenny. William
became Sheriff of Hereford in 1174. His interest in Sussex wa s maintained
as he confirmed the grants of his father and grandfather for the
maintenance of Sele Priory and extended St. Mary's, Shoreham. (right)
