Lydia was born on December 17th, 1803 in Northampton (later Lehigh County), Pennsylvania.  Lydia's father was Johan Philip Knappenberger and her mother was Maria Barbara Stettler.  Her paternal grandparents were Johan Henrich Knappenberger and Anna Margaretha Desch; her maternal grandparents were Henry Stettler and Barbara Steininger. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Jonathan, John Philip, Henry, Jacob, Solomon, Anna Maria, Judith K., Rebecca, Salome and Tevilla.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children. She had a half-brother named Johan Philip Jr..  She died at the age of 37 on May 26th, 1841.

‌Lydia and John George were married in a religious ceremony on August 5th, 1821 in Lower Macungie Township,Lehigh County,Pennsylvania.  They had three sons and two daughters, named Henry K., Stephen, William, Juliana and Sarah Elwina.
