His paternal grandfather was Richard Gatten and his paternal grandmother is Mary; his maternal grandfather was Joseph Murphey. He had nine brothers and five sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Thomas, Charles, William Jr., Galentine, Isaac, Greenberry, Joseph, James, Jonathan, Elizabeth (Betsey), Rachel, Catherine (Katie), Jane, Sarah (Sallie) and UNKNOWN. He died at the age of 57 on January 11th, 1850 in Richland Co, Ohio.-
