Raymond M. was born on January 1st, 1896 in Monroe County, Indiana. Raymond M.'s father was David Francis Shields and his mother was Phoebe Jane "Jennie" Stephens. His paternal grandparents were David Thomas Shields and Sarah Frances Mize. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Leco Ernest, Lester H., Cecil, Goldie A. and Roxie. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 82 on August 24th, 1978 in Monroe County, Indiana. He was buried in Smithville Christian Church Cemetery, Smithville, Monroe Co., Indiana.-
