Leco Ernest was born on December 13th, 1894 in Monroe County, Indiana. Leco Ernest's father was David Francis Shields and his mother was Phoebe Jane "Jennie" Stephens. His paternal grandparents were David Thomas Shields and Sarah Frances Mize. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Raymond M., Lester H., Cecil, Goldie A. and Roxie. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 71 on November 5th, 1966 in Monroe County, Indiana. He was buried in Knight Ridge Cemetery, Salt Creek Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana.-
