Lester H. was born on March 6th, 1898 in Monroe County, Indiana. Lester H.'s father was David Francis Shields and his mother was Phoebe Jane "Jennie" Stephens. His paternal grandparents were David Thomas Shields and Sarah Frances Mize. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Leco Ernest, Raymond M., Cecil, Goldie A. and Roxie. He was the second youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 45 in 1943 in Monroe County, Indiana. He was buried in Knight Ridge Cemetery, Salt Creek Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana.-
