James Henry was born on December 20th, 1872 in Monroe County, Indiana. James Henry's father was David Thomas Shields and his mother was Sarah Frances Mize. His paternal grandparents were William Henry Harrison Shields and Mary Ellen Hudlin. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named David Francis, Charles Mahlon, Nathan Homer, Troy, Mary Elizabeth, Lillie Christina, Laura Agnes, Sarah Jane "Jennie", Almeda, Ola Mae and Rosa Leona. He was the fifth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 80 on October 12th, 1953 in Monroe County, Indiana. He was buried in Knight Ridge Cemetery, Salt Creek Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana.-
