Nathan Homer was born on April 20th, 1881 in Monroe County, Indiana. Nathan Homer's father was David Thomas Shields and his mother was Sarah Frances Mize. His paternal grandparents were William Henry Harrison Shields and Mary Ellen Hudlin. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named David Francis, Charles Mahlon, James Henry, Troy, Mary Elizabeth, Lillie Christina, Laura Agnes, Sarah Jane "Jennie", Almeda, Ola Mae and Rosa Leona. He was the fourth youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 79 on March 7th, 1961 in Monroe County, Indiana. He was buried in Clear Creek Cemetery, Clear Creek, Monroe Co., Indiana.-
