? was born on August 4th, 1909. ?'s father was James Henry Shields and her mother was Emma Hensley. Her paternal grandparents were David Thomas Shields and Sarah Frances Mize. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Marion, Wilburn, Thomas Jefferson, Clifford Tola, Woodrow, Sylvia, ? and ?. She was the fourth youngest of the nine children. She had a half-sister named Martha Ellen. She died on August 4th, 1909 in Monroe County, Indiana. She was buried in Knight Ridge Cemetery, Salt Creek Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana.-
