On May 20 1862 at Monroe Co., Indiana, by order of the Probate court,
Eliza sold Lot #119 in Town of Bloomington, Indiana being 33 ft. wide by
166 ft. deep to Ann M. Beatley for $264.08 with $100.00 cash and the rest
payable in three yearly payments from 4 April 1862.
In 1870, Eliza was a resident of Perry Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana, at the
time of the Census as a widow with children Jefferson, Rebecca, Eliza,
Anna John and Catherine.
In 1880, Eliza was a resident of Perry Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana, at the
time of the Census with children Rebecca, Eliza, Anna and John F.
A newspaper article in the Republican Progress, Bloomington, In., Tues. 4
Feb 1896; "On Friday last Mrs. Eliza Shields, who resides two miles south
of town, had reached her 80th year, and in commemoration of the event a
number of friends and relations went down to visit her, taking a goodly
supply of provisions. There were also some useful gifts for the old lady,
among them an oak rocking chair presented by her nephews Horace and Wm.
Blakely. Mrs. Shields came from Kentucky to Monroe County with her
parents in 1836. The following from town were in attendance: Horace
Blakely and family, W. o. Blakely and family, Henry Dodds and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Rogers, Mrs. Robert Davis and Mrs. John Campbell."
In 1900, Eliza was a resident of Perry Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana, at the
time of the Census with children Rebecca M., Eliza J., Frank P., Susannah
and granddaughter Bertha Rogers living with here.
Eliza died on 24 February 1902. Cause of death was listed as pneumonia.
