Thomas was born in January 1885 in Bolton and his baptism took place on February 7th, 1886 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Thomas' father was Richard Tomlinson and his mother was Sarah Ann Barnes.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Tomlinson and Ann Bolton; his maternal grandparents were James Barnes and Sarah Barnes. He had a brother and three sisters, named Richard, Alice, Ann and Ellen.  He was the youngest of the five children. He had a half-brother named Peter.  He died at the age of 1 in June 1886 in Bolton.  He was buried on June 7th, 1886 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.3 1
