Alice was born in September 1875 in Bolton and her baptism took place on October 10th, 1875 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Alice's father was Richard Tomlinson and her mother was Sarah Ann Barnes.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Tomlinson and Ann Bolton; her maternal grandparents were James Barnes and Sarah Barnes. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Richard, Thomas, Ann and Ellen.  She was the oldest of the five children. She had a half-brother named Peter.  She died at the age of 5 in December 1880 in Bolton.  Her burial was on December 8th, 1880 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.3
