Robert was born in October 1764 in Malpas and his baptism took place on October 5th, 1764 at St. Oswalds (Malpas).1  Robert's father was Thomas Tomlinson and his mother was Elizabeth Lloyd. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Richard, James, William, Charles, Mary, Sarah, Ruth, Elizabeth, Martha and Eleanor.  He was the third oldest of the twelve children.
