Richard was born in June 1770 in Malpas and his baptism took place on June 5th, 1770 at St. Oswalds (Malpas).1  Richard's father was Thomas Tomlinson and his mother was Elizabeth Lloyd. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Robert, James, William, Charles, Mary, Sarah, Ruth, Elizabeth, Martha and Eleanor.  He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.
