Mary's father was Thomas Tomlinson and her mother was Elizabeth Lloyd. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Richard, James, William, Charles, Sarah, Ruth, Elizabeth, Martha and Eleanor.  She was the second oldest of the twelve children.
