Martha was born in August 1779 in Malpas and her baptism took place on August 25th, 1779 at St. Oswalds (Malpas).1  Martha's father was Thomas Tomlinson and her mother was Elizabeth Lloyd. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Richard, James, William, Charles, Mary, Sarah, Ruth, Elizabeth and Eleanor.  She was the second youngest of the twelve children.
