Charles was born in February 1778 in Malpas and his baptism took place on February 18th, 1778 at St. Oswalds (Malpas).1  Charles' father was Thomas Tomlinson and his mother was Elizabeth Lloyd. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Richard, James, William, Mary, Sarah, Ruth, Elizabeth, Martha and Eleanor.  He was the third youngest of the twelve children.
