James Thornton

James was born in 1827 in Beverley and his christening took place there on April 26th, 1827.^1 2

James' father was William Thornton and his mother was Mary Dunn. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named William, George, Joseph, Prudence, Mary, Annie, Maria, Ruth, Frances and Eliza.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 64 in 1891 in Australia.³ 

• Death Notes

  I think he emigrated sometime after the 1841 census and before the 1851 census. He married here in Aust.in 1852 and on his death certificate 1891 he had been in victoria for 40 years - unable to locate him on any shipping record or convict record.
