John was born in 1805 in Farnworth and his baptism took place on August 18th, 1805 at Peel Chapel.1  John's father was James Stones and his mother was Hannah (Ann) Parr.  His paternal grandparents were Daniel Stones and Ann Mather. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Daniel, James, Ann, Sally, Nancy, Hannah, Alice and Betty.  He was the oldest of the nine known children.  He died at the age of 70 in June 1875 in Farnworth.  He was buried on June 29th, 1875 in Farnworth.2
