Betty was born in 1830 in Farnworth and her baptism took place on June 17th, 1830 at St. Saviour (Ringley).1  Betty's father was James Stones and her mother was Hannah (Ann) Parr.  Her paternal grandparents were Daniel Stones and Ann Mather. She had three brothers and five sisters, named John, Daniel, James, Ann, Sally, Nancy, Hannah and Alice.  She was the youngest of the nine known children.
