James was born in 1820 in Farnworth and his baptism took place on May 12th, 1820 at St. Saviour (Ringley).¹

Birth Notes

James' father was James Stones and his mother was Hannah (Ann) Parr. His paternal grandparents were Daniel Stones and Ann Mather. He had two brothers and six sisters, named John, Daniel, Ann, Sally, Nancy, Hannah, Alice and Betty. He was the fourth youngest of the nine known children.
