Sarah was born in February 1749 in Lindley and her baptism took place on February 28th, 1749 at St. Peter (Huddersfield).1  Sarah's father was William Stocks and her mother was Sarah Brook.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Stocks and Eliza Wilkinson. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Jno, David, Charles, Fanny, Elizabeth, Ellen, Mary and Rachel.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.
