Rachel was born in 1764 in Deighton and her baptism took place on October 21st, 1764 at St. Peter (Huddersfield).¹

Rachel's father was William Stocks and her mother was Sarah Brook. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Stocks and Eliza Wilkinson. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Jno, David, Charles, Fanny, Sarah, Elizabeth, Ellen and Mary. She was the eighth oldest of the nine children.
