Richard was born in 1785 in Crosland Hill and his christening took place on January 23rd, 1785 in Almondbury.1  Richard's father was John Stocks and his mother was Sarah Gledhill . He had six brothers and five sisters, named Richard, John, Noah, Sammy, David, James, Betty, Mary, Hannah, Sarah and Phebe.  He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.
