Phebe was born in January 1789 in Crosland Hill and her christening took place on January 4th, 1789 in Almondbury.1  Phebe's father was John Stocks and her mother was Sarah Gledhill . She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Richard, John, Richard, Noah, Sammy, David, James, Betty, Mary, Hannah and Sarah.  She was the eighth oldest of the twelve children.
