Mary was born in 1778 in Berry Brow and her christening took place on September 20th, 1778 in Almondbury.1  Mary's father was John Stocks and her mother was Sarah Gledhill . She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Richard, John, Richard, Noah, Sammy, David, James, Betty, Hannah, Sarah and Phebe.  She was the fourth oldest of the twelve children.
