George was born in 1828 in Lockwood.1  George's father was James Stocks and his mother was Hannah Edwards.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Stocks and Elizabeth Hargreaves. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Uriah, Job, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah and Emma.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.

‌George and Ann were married in a religious ceremony on February 27th, 1851 in Almondbury.3   The family line is yet to be completed.
