Mary was born on July 19th, 1819 in Almondbury and her baptism took place on January 27th, 1822 in Highfield (Independent).1  Mary's father was James Stocks and her mother was Hannah Edwards.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Stocks and Elizabeth Hargreaves. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Uriah, Job, George, Elizabeth, Sarah and Emma.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
