George's father was Benjamin Stocks and his mother was Ann Walker. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Stocks and Sarah Cliffe. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin, William, Jonathan, Joseph, Benjamin, John, Samuel, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 63 in October 1858 in Skircoat. His burial was on October 5th, 1858 in Rastrick.²

  In 1851, George and Hannah (55 & 57) and son John (20) had moved back to Clover Hill Farm, Skircoat (between Elland and Halifax), a farm 41 acres. They had grandson Thomas Halliwell (1) with them.
  
  George (and later Hannah) are buried at Rastrick in 1856.
