Margaret was born in 1829 in Pennington and her baptism took place on October 18th, 1829 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1 2  Margaret's father was John Rigby and her mother was Margaret Gaskel. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Peter, William, James, Samuel, Sarah, Mary and Ann.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine known children.
