Sarah was born in February 1881 in Little Neston.1  Sarah's father was Thomas Oxton and her mother was Alice Oxton.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Oxton and Rachel Williams. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Moses, Joseph, Henry, Elizabeth, Rachel, Annie and Jane.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.
