Jane was born in June 1876 in Little Neston.1  Jane's father was Thomas Oxton and her mother was Alice Oxton.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Oxton and Rachel Williams. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Moses, Joseph, Henry, Elizabeth, Rachel, Annie and Sarah.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
