Richard was born in June 1883 in Parbold.1  Richard's father was Richard Orrell and his mother was Sarah Gorse.  His paternal grandparents were George Orrell and Mary Molyneux; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Gorse and Alice Mawdsley. He had four brothers and two sisters, named George, Thomas, George, Henry, Mary and Alice.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 79 on March 21st, 1963 in Wigan.2

‌Richard and Margaret were married in a religious ceremony in 1908 in Wigan.3  They had two sons and four daughters, named William, Norman, Marian, Dora, Margaret and Clarice.  There are no more children.
