Elizabeth was born in 1827 in Bolton and her baptism took place on November 18th, 1827 at St. Saviour (Ringley).1  Elizabeth's father was Thomas Openshaw and her mother was Jane Tomlinson. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named John, Thomas, Job, Sarah, Mary, Hannah, Catherine, Sarah, Harriet and Catherine.  She was the second youngest of the eleven children.
