Catherine was born on February 5th, 1811 in Outwood and her baptism took place on April 14th, 1811 at the St. Matthew (Little Lever).1  Catherine's father was Thomas Openshaw and her mother was Jane Tomlinson. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named John, Thomas, Job, Sarah, Mary, Hannah, Sarah, Harriet, Elizabeth and Catherine.  She was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
