Thomas' father was William Millington and her mother was Jane Williams. Her paternal grandparents were John Millington and Ann Shaw. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Charles, John, Joseph, Robert, William, George, Elizabeth, Rose and Mary. She was the fifth oldest of the ten children.
