Harriet was born in 1822 in Little Lever and her baptism took place on February 24th, 1822 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Harriet's father was John Millington and her mother was Harriet Whitworth.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Millington and Ann Davies. She had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Peter, Ann, Martha, Mary and Elizabeth.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
