William was born in March 1847 in Bolton.¹

Birth Notes

William's father was William Mather and his mother was Esther Dewhurst. His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Alice Mort. He had a brother and eight sisters, named John, Alice, Sarah, Ann, Ellen, Ellen, Mary, Jane and Betsy. He had an adopted brother named William. He died at the age of 12 in 1859 in Bolton.¹
