Susannah was born in August 1833 in Worsley and her baptism took place on March 9th, 1834 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).1 2  Susannah's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Taylor. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Richard, James, William, Robert, Esther and Betty. She had an adopted brother named Henry.
