Richard was born in 1821 in Worsley.1   Richard's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Taylor. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John, James, William, Robert, Esther, Betty and Susannah. He had an adopted brother named Henry.  He died at the age of 21 in 1842.
