Elizabeth, known as Betty, was born in 1829 in Worsley and her baptism took place on February 7th, 1829 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).1 2  Betty's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Taylor. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Richard, James, William, Robert, Esther and Susannah. She had an adopted brother named Henry.
