Squire was born on April 19th, 1835 in Pilkington and his baptism took place on March 26th, 1837 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).^1 2

Squire's father was Peter Mather and his mother was Sarah (Sally) Barlow.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Melling. He had three sisters named Maria, Ann and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named James, Mary and Mary.  He died at the age of 45 on February 16th, 1881 in Derbyshire.
